Black Bear spring rifle season opens May 1st,  we have been dealing with a mortality quota issue in our area and have decided to hunt earlier than usual, the bears are out of the dens and on the baits before the snow packed roads are open to trucks. Normally we wait until the roads are plowed and can drive in. This year we will travel to the ranch on ATV and Snowmachine and beat the rush. If anyone is interested let us know.

We are seeing an increase in the numbers and size of bears due to the low female mortality number in our area (spring 4 females) and the fact that Colorado has outlawed hunting bears with dogs and hunting over baits, it is rare to see a bear in our country unless you are hunting archery in September, baits are crucial. Colorado's bear population has exploded.

Archery Season begins August 15th and run until September 20th. The early  season allows hunters to get a jump on the hunting season. There is not to many places you can bow hunting in August. We take advantage of the  typically warm weather by using permanent water hole Blinds, and a few ground blinds located along heavily used trails. Stalking a Pronghorn with a bow can be quite a challenge.  Wyoming's Antelope archery seasons is a well kept secret, due to the size of the state and the low population, it's rare that you will see another hunter, even on most public land.

Southern Wyoming gets a great variety of color phases in our Black Bears. The color phases are Chocolate, Cinnamon, Blonde, Brown,  Black, and a mixture of all. On our ranches it is more common to see a color phase bear than a black bear.
